February Work: Illustrations and surprise, more tokens.

February Work: Illustrations and surprise, more tokens.

Hey Everyone.
February is already filled with new work requests and March is looking to be just as busy.
I have started work on some creature illustrations for 10×10 games. It’s a nice break from the tokens and I’m pretty happy to note that I have got a bit better since the last batch I did for them. Part of that is just working at a higher resolution. The other part is having drawn a lot in the past year I was bound (hopefully) to get better. You can find out more about Conclave on their site: http://www.playconclave.com/

The other stuff not too surprising is even more token work. I have quite a few requests in for custom work. The ones I’ll show you below are a series of historical viking warriors. I think if I can make a few viking women I can add in a viking ship and sell these as a pack. Image below.

In the Que is a new set of maps, some pig faced orcs and a healthy pack of modern characters.

Thanks for reading.

Post GenCon

What a great weekend. I didn’t get to game as much as I would have liked, but I did manage to run into almost everybody I wanted to run into, plus I had the pleasure of talking to people I had not planned on talking to.

I won’t be able to recall everybody’s name so I’ll just say that it was great talking to everybody if I forget your name please forgive me it was a whirlwind of faces and names. There was a lot of positive comments about my work and kickstarter. I’m looking forward to building better relationships with all the people who want to work with me.  Matt Morton, Nick, and all the guys from D20Pro, John and the other guy (sorry) at Epic Table, Doug and the JPG the younger at Fantasy Grounds, Mike Muldoon and the team at Infrno, Riley Dutton and his partner for Roll 20, The Guy at the Profantasy booth who I didn’t have enough time to talk to properly (sorry), The guys at RPG with Me, and all the guys running booths who were cool. Also Larry from WEGS, I’ve been helping him on some things here and there and in return I got a shiny new t-shirt. Thanks.

I also got to meet and talk to a few fellow cartographer/illustrators. Jared Blendo and Mike Schley who are both formidable workers with amazing skills. Equally nice to talk to. I also talked to Dave White (a fellow CCAD graduate)  who draws amazing mechs, thanks for the poster and I’ll grab one of your books online this week.

I finally met Matt Jackson one of the original Ugly Monsters and Bryan who I have played Inspectres with online.
Ed Healey and I couldn’t seem to find the right timing to actually talk which is a bummer.

I also want to thank the guys who ran games for us. One guy from The Red Shirts who ran a DnD Battle Royale game, the guy who ran our Super Dungeon Explore game, and all the people who just let me hover over them as they played.

Also to Kit, thanks for hanging out, dinner at the Ram, (thank all those guys when you get together to play next include Daphne)  all the tweeting and posting and introductions I had a blast hanging out with you. To the guys at the tweet up thanks for all the work that made that possible.

Steven Russel from Rite Publishing it was good seeing you over lunch. Ryan from EnPublishing I wish I could have seen the game played on the map you printed out.

A big  thanks to my friend Shane who went out there with me. Though he did pick a hotel that we are pretty sure is slated to be demolished as soon as the weekend was over.

I hope I covered everything, if I left you out let me know.

Last I’d like to thank my wife for letting me go and being so supportive. Not only that but spending the weekend cleaning and moving the girls playroom downstairs so I could move my playroom upstairs. You are awesome.

Coming soon… More tokens! I have 30 custom character tokens to make before the end of the month.. if possible. A couple other custom tokens too.

Thanks for stopping by.

Vehicles and Ships

A while back in May or June Jonathan Roberts an amazing cartographer and great guy asked if I could help him finish a set of vehicles and other assorted things for a job he had taken on for Profantasy. I accepted and ended up making quite a few vehicles, some textures and some objects. I hadn’t had a chance to post them til now.
This week I’m finishing up a series of ship maps for EnWorld Publishing. This set contains 13 ships used in their Admiral o’ the High Seas – Naval Adventures project. The ships come in an at a glance view, battle map sized maps and as tokens for moving around a game board. This was a large project that has put me about a week behind in my other projects, so if you have been waiting for a custom token I should be getting to those soon.

Lastly I’m in the process of finalizing my kickstarter which will launch on the first. It still has a few tweaks to be made. Thanks for looking.

A new map

Here is a map I finished for Headless Hydra Games I will probably end up doing quite a bit more from them. This isn’t the final, but close.

I counted up the number of jobs I have lined up right now, it’s somewhere over 10. 3-4 map jobs, 3-4 token jobs and a few illustration and layout jobs. Needless to say I’m going to be busy for at least a month. At the end of this set of jobs though I should have a few more sets of tokens to release on my store. Some Sci-Fi and some fantasy.

Thanks for stopping by and for the comments, I appreciate them even if I don’t get around to responding to all of them.

Mid-February

Well February is half over already. It’s been pretty good so far. I have a couple new jobs lined up. The usual new custom tokens and out of the blue got a book cover gig for a small press book. This job came from the reference of a great guy up in Canada. David S. tried to help me keep Four Ugly Monsters going for a while, he was a huge part of the last couple FUMcons. So big thanks to him.

I’ll also get to flex the brain matter a bit by helping Gamewick Games in cleaning up their logos. I’m also working on a map project for a guy in Europe, I will have more info as I get further into that project and take the time to collect the links and names to do the job justice.

Good things recently include watching “The Walking Dead” and a great night out with my wife and girls at Logan’s Steakhouse. Also a new record in visits to the blog… 200+ yeah It’s not way up there but it’s the highest so far so I am happy. I also met with fellow Cartographer MMMMMMMPig for cheesecake.. the delicious kind at the Cheesecake Factory to talk about maps and other things.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope to have some new images to show off next time.

January Wrap Up

I have for the most part finished a set of 11 maps for Patrick who is currently running his gaming group through the adventure. I’ll post one now and more later. I think Patrick wanted to make the maps available in a pack with his book which describes his game and thoughts behind being a DM.

I’m also wrapping up a series of images that will be used as part of Rite Publishings “Fold-n-Go” line of paper minis. It’s been a lot of fun to work on.

If I get some free time in early Feb I’ll work on putting together the “Frozen North” token pack.

November, Things are finally slowing down.

November is here, It seems just like a week ago that it was early June and I would have the whole summer to do things. Well I did do a lot of things and the summer flew past, and Fall is almost winter.. well it is winter if you live on the East Coast. I have managed to complete a few jobs which I will post images of below.

Amongst the finished work is a 24 page catalog for a local business Stanton’s Sheet Music. The map for White Haired Man a set of tokens that has taken me way too long to finish for Drew, the character illustrations for Toon, and a sample page from The Breaking of Forstor Nagar which Rite Publishing released last month.

I continue to do work for Citrasolv, though this week they are without power, being some of the unlucky ones on the East Coast. Also Rite Publishing keeps me on my toes with new covers for their Pathways magazine and other book covers.

So that leaves some frost giants to finish up (followed by fire giants) and the Star Trek tokens. When those are done I may go through and create some map object packs to sell on my token site.

Hope everybody had a great Halloween and I hope to have more to show before Thansgiving.

August is here, and almost over.

Well, I wanted to take July off from work, but that didn’t happen, I did manage to get out more with the girls though.

I’m happy to have the work, and it keeps coming in. I used a lot of the money I’ve made making tokens this year to buy a new wacom tablet. It’s taking a while to get used to, but I’m sure once I’m really used to it my work will pick up speed.

I just wrapped up a job for some guys in Europe. They have used my tokens to create an rpg/battle game. Head over to http://www.age-of-fear.net/index.php/age-of-fear-welcome though the screenshots haven’t been updated yet, there are new screen shots in the forum.

I squeezed in a quick job for Jason in California the devil below was for him. The Troll is a larger token job that will take me into September to finish.

I’m also going to be working with a good guy on creating artwork for a game and possibly creating an art pack of the monsters from that game. There is a skeleton below from that series of art.

And lastly the letter Y with a smore on it… Why.. because smores are awesome.

I still have a ton of other jobs lined up and personal projects that I want to work on, I’m hoping that I will get more done during the following months.

Junes Doings

Things continue to keep me busy, I’m going to try to take most of July off… just to do the work that I haven’t been able to get around to doing. That list includes finishing the Frost Giants and cleaning the garage and basement. This month I have finished another set of icons for Rite Publishing. These Icons are for their Jade Oath product line, this set brings the total number of icons to 46, though only 18 were part of this last batch. See more products from Rite here.

I am also trying to get through a set of 35 tokens for Leszek from Poland. He’s already released a turn based game and wants to make it look better by adding my tokens for the units. Check out their current game version here.

Lastly on a personal note of triumph I ran (ha.. walked) the Warrior Dash in early June. It’s a 3.5 mile obstacle course and it was mostly muddy and uphill. Sure my time was lousy, I’m not a runner… more of a sprinter like a cheeteah. I made it in at just over an hour and found that water and mud-resistant shorts are great for keeping you from getting too scratched up but they also don’t let the mud and water out of the various pockets… when I got done I was probably carrying an extra 10 pounds of filth.

Thanks for checking in.
