February Work: Illustrations and surprise, more tokens.

February Work: Illustrations and surprise, more tokens.

Hey Everyone.
February is already filled with new work requests and March is looking to be just as busy.
I have started work on some creature illustrations for 10×10 games. It’s a nice break from the tokens and I’m pretty happy to note that I have got a bit better since the last batch I did for them. Part of that is just working at a higher resolution. The other part is having drawn a lot in the past year I was bound (hopefully) to get better. You can find out more about Conclave on their site: http://www.playconclave.com/

The other stuff not too surprising is even more token work. I have quite a few requests in for custom work. The ones I’ll show you below are a series of historical viking warriors. I think if I can make a few viking women I can add in a viking ship and sell these as a pack. Image below.

In the Que is a new set of maps, some pig faced orcs and a healthy pack of modern characters.

Thanks for reading.

End of October

First I hope everyone on the East Coast stays safe.

I haven’t posted here for a while, I’ve been updating my kickstarter page weekly. In case you missed it you can go here to see where the kickstarter project stands. I just finished the first part, 202 monster tokens. I still have close to another 200 to make before the end of the year.

I still squeeze in a few other projects at night and on the weekends. I finished another set of maps for En Publishing in their Zietgist campaign. I had promised to make some tokens for another guy before the Kickstarter took off and I made several for him early this month.

An interesting request came in to make a couple Shadow Run characters, the interesting part was that the first character is named Jake Chambers, for those that don’t read Stephen King he is a character in the Dark Tower series. I think it’s cool that Jake ends up in the Shadowrun universe if you can kinet.

So here are a couple samples of work not done for the kickstarter.

Custom Character Tokens

I’ve wrapped up the remaining custom character tokens for Table Top Forge. There were some great characters in this batch. I’m excited to have them done and now I can focus on the Monster tokens.

Mid September already

I want to thank everyone who has waited patiently while I work though backlog of work.

I am working on getting all the custom characters done this week. That will free me up to focus on the Monster tokens and just a few other jobs.

Thanks for all the support I appreciate having a great base of clients and patrons.

So here are about half of the custom characters, including two cowboys (ones a kobold) and my first Steampunk token.

The End of August.

My kickstarter ended last night, much to my joy better than expected. I will try to write about the experience in the upcoming days. A big Thanks! to everyone who helped out and backed the project.

I just wrapped up a custom token job. Just in time to start work on the custom tokens I owe for TTF kickstarter and my own Kickstarter. Add in another 15+ custom tokens for Jason at D3 games, and 5 maps for En Publishing. I will probably be busy for some time.

August was a great month and I think the next two, while busy should be good as well.

Thanks for swinging by, more to come soon.

Post GenCon

What a great weekend. I didn’t get to game as much as I would have liked, but I did manage to run into almost everybody I wanted to run into, plus I had the pleasure of talking to people I had not planned on talking to.

I won’t be able to recall everybody’s name so I’ll just say that it was great talking to everybody if I forget your name please forgive me it was a whirlwind of faces and names. There was a lot of positive comments about my work and kickstarter. I’m looking forward to building better relationships with all the people who want to work with me.  Matt Morton, Nick, and all the guys from D20Pro, John and the other guy (sorry) at Epic Table, Doug and the JPG the younger at Fantasy Grounds, Mike Muldoon and the team at Infrno, Riley Dutton and his partner for Roll 20, The Guy at the Profantasy booth who I didn’t have enough time to talk to properly (sorry), The guys at RPG with Me, and all the guys running booths who were cool. Also Larry from WEGS, I’ve been helping him on some things here and there and in return I got a shiny new t-shirt. Thanks.

I also got to meet and talk to a few fellow cartographer/illustrators. Jared Blendo and Mike Schley who are both formidable workers with amazing skills. Equally nice to talk to. I also talked to Dave White (a fellow CCAD graduate)  who draws amazing mechs, thanks for the poster and I’ll grab one of your books online this week.

I finally met Matt Jackson one of the original Ugly Monsters and Bryan who I have played Inspectres with online.
Ed Healey and I couldn’t seem to find the right timing to actually talk which is a bummer.

I also want to thank the guys who ran games for us. One guy from The Red Shirts who ran a DnD Battle Royale game, the guy who ran our Super Dungeon Explore game, and all the people who just let me hover over them as they played.

Also to Kit, thanks for hanging out, dinner at the Ram, (thank all those guys when you get together to play next include Daphne)  all the tweeting and posting and introductions I had a blast hanging out with you. To the guys at the tweet up thanks for all the work that made that possible.

Steven Russel from Rite Publishing it was good seeing you over lunch. Ryan from EnPublishing I wish I could have seen the game played on the map you printed out.

A big  thanks to my friend Shane who went out there with me. Though he did pick a hotel that we are pretty sure is slated to be demolished as soon as the weekend was over.

I hope I covered everything, if I left you out let me know.

Last I’d like to thank my wife for letting me go and being so supportive. Not only that but spending the weekend cleaning and moving the girls playroom downstairs so I could move my playroom upstairs. You are awesome.

Coming soon… More tokens! I have 30 custom character tokens to make before the end of the month.. if possible. A couple other custom tokens too.

Thanks for stopping by.

Kickstarter, GenCon and me.

The Kickstarter is going well, over $4000 raised so far. I’ve done a couple videos of me making tokens and I plan on making a couple more. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out you have 13 days left, please check it out.

I’m off to GenCon Thursday, so if you are going to be there let me know, I always enjoy meeting fellow gamers. I’ll be walking around so I don’t have a set place I’ll be.

In the works are 20 tokens fro a patron, 30 custom tokens for another kickstarter, 20 or so token statues, and when my kickstarter ends about 200 monster tokens if not more. Luckily school starts next week and if I can keep the social media sites turned off and if I don’t get sucked into Breaking Bad and more episodes of Full Metal Alchemist I should be able to do about 3 tokens a day, so in 3 months I should have my current workload done.

Thanks for stopping by.

More tokens and Kickstarter Update

Well the Kickstarter is off and running, In just over a week I have made it half way to the goal. I’m going to start making monster tokens on a daily basis.

I’m one token short of wrapping up a 20 token job for Shawn, he has been very patient as I have had to divide my time between making tokens, making making maps, making lunch for the girls and making a trip back to Iowa for my niece’s wedding. It’s been a busy month but I think things are going to slow down now that I’m throwing my name all over the place :) Oh, and I just remembered I have 30 custom tokens owed to the backers of the Table Top Forge Kickstarter. Guess I won’t be relaxing quite yet.

Next Week is GenCon, I’ll be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I’ll be the guy wearing the geeky t-shirt.

Thanks to everyone who has stopped by the blog and has helped out with the kickstarter, I appreciate all the help.

Here are a couple of the tokens I’m wrapping up this week.

Vehicles and Ships

A while back in May or June Jonathan Roberts an amazing cartographer and great guy asked if I could help him finish a set of vehicles and other assorted things for a job he had taken on for Profantasy. I accepted and ended up making quite a few vehicles, some textures and some objects. I hadn’t had a chance to post them til now.
This week I’m finishing up a series of ship maps for EnWorld Publishing. This set contains 13 ships used in their Admiral o’ the High Seas – Naval Adventures project. The ships come in an at a glance view, battle map sized maps and as tokens for moving around a game board. This was a large project that has put me about a week behind in my other projects, so if you have been waiting for a custom token I should be getting to those soon.

Lastly I’m in the process of finalizing my kickstarter which will launch on the first. It still has a few tweaks to be made. Thanks for looking.

August Kickstarter Project

The full details will be available soon as I finish working on it this weekend.

The project will be to create 150+ monster tokens from the OGL/SRD list. They will be virtual tokens created by me and Nell (see below) for those donors who kick in a bit more there will be an option for a printable PDF file. I’ll add a link to the project once the details are in place. It kicks off August 1st.

I’d like to introduce Nell, who will be helping me on this project.

I had the pleasure of having her in one of the classes I was teaching at CCAD. She had that right kind of geek attitude and we would discuss all things geek. I’ve only exchanged a few emails with her since then but immediately thought of her when I realized that the scope of this project required additional talent.

So here is a bit about her and  a link to her site. Attached below are the 1st two samples of her work.

Nell Bailey is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer by day and an amateur seamstress by night.  Her favorite things are robots, especially of the transforming variety, dolls, and video games.  Nell is a fan of comics and writes and illustrates her own web comic that she updates whenever she feels like it, or has time.  She currently resides in Columbus, Ohio.
